The church St. Leonhard

The pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard is one of the interesting architectural and cultural landmarks. The exact age of the church cannot be determined with certainty from documents.

Beneath the church hill, during the pre-Christmas period, the St. Leonhard Advent Market takes place in support of the Lebenshilfe Salzburg. It has earned a special place in the Salzburg Advent due to its unique atmosphere and its exquisite arts and crafts offerings.

Krampus groups

In the Salzburg region, there are many different Krampus groups and associations dedicated to this tradition. Each group has its own unique costumes and masks, often handcrafted and intricately designed. The costumes are made of animal furs, bells, chains, and horns to create a menacing appearance.

The Marktmusikkapelle Grödig is one of the oldest brass bands in the Flachgau region. It was first mentioned in records as early as 1843.

The annual musical highlight is the traditional Easter concert held on Easter Sunday. In 2018, the Marktmusikkapelle Grödig celebrated its 175th anniversary.

The Marksmen

The Marksmen

In the past, the marksmen had the task of guarding the salt transports on the Königsseeache river. Today, their role is primarily focused on preserving traditions and participating in local processions (such as Corpus Christi) and other festive events, both domestically and abroad.

The Uniformed Schützenkompanie Grödig is an association that has been in existence since 1756. Since 1966, they have had an artillery unit with a cannon, provided by the Niederalm artillerymen.

In the Untersberg area, an old custom called the "Wilde Jagd" (Wild Hunt) is practiced during the Advent season. This tradition is an integral part of the Salzburg customs calendar. Every year, on the second Thursday of Advent, the "Wilde Gjoad," as it is commonly known, sweeps across the land and visits certain farms. The location where the Wilde Gjoad appears remains a secret until the last moment.
